The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge host a reception to mark the UK-Africa Summit

The reception, which was also attended by The Earl and Countess of Wessex and The Princess Royal, was held on behalf of The Queen. 

During his speech at the reception, The Duke of Cambridge spoke of his personal connections to the continent, saying:

The African continent holds a very special place in my heart. It is the place my father took my brother and me shortly after our mother died. And when deciding where best to propose to Catherine, I could think of no more fitting place than Kenya to get down on one knee. 

The UK-Africa Investment Summit, hosted by the UK Government, aims to create new lasting partnerships that will deliver more investment, jobs and growth. It brings together Heads of State and Government and senior representatives from African countries, key multilateral agencies and high-profile UK and African businesses. 

His Royal Highness spoke of the positive reports he had heard from guests at the reception of business relationships being formed at the Summit: 

‘It has been encouraging to hear about the productive, long term partnerships that have been developed at today’s Summit, as well as the increasing investment from UK businesses into Africa.’
