The King convenes tech leaders for AI Summit in Scotland
Published 17/09/2026
His Majesty has brought together leaders from the artificial intelligence sector, government ministers, and civil society thought leaders at Dumfries House in East Ayrshire to discuss the future deployment and development of AI technologies.
The gathering focused on exploring methods to harness artificial intelligence in ways that benefit society, strengthen local communities, and improve lives.
The discussions, facilitated by The Ditchley Foundation, brought together representatives from major tech firms, including Nvidia, Google DeepMind, OpenAI, and Anthropic.
The UK Minister for Artificial Intelligence, The Rt Hon Kanishka Narayan, attended the event alongside figures from The King's Trust, The King's Foundation, and the Sustainable Markets Initiative.
Delegates at the summit considered whether a shared set of principles could be established to guide the future application of AI. The framework aims to position the technology not only as a driver of capability and efficiency, but as a tool that upholds human dignity and supports the flourishing of both people and the planet.
Before the formal discussions began, The King joined the industry leaders to outline the purpose of the meeting and participated in an official group photograph.
In his speech, His Majesty reflected on the opportunity and risks presented by this revolutionary new technology.
I can only applaud those of you who are so deeply committed to harnessing Artificial Intelligence for good, so that we might see a future where human potential remains boundless, whilst technological development is carefully curated to enhance our success.
Organisers noted that bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds aligns with His Majesty’s long-held focus on addressing major societal challenges through collaboration and constructive dialogue. While AI remains one of the fastest-adopted technologies in history, its rapid evolution presents ongoing challenges. The summit aimed to advance the ethical principles that industry experts and leaders may collectively champion in the future.
