Published 27 May 2009
Prince William, President of the Football Association (FA), is to attend the final of the UEFA Champions League between Barcelona and Manchester United tonight at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
Prince William has been invited by the FA to attend the final of the UEFA Champions League in his capacity as President of the FA and a key supporter of the England 2018 World Cup Bid. The England Bid was officially launched in London last Monday, 18th June, and included a video message of support from The Prince.
The Prince will meet key FIFA and UEFA officials and other dignitaries in private before the match, during half-time and after the match. The Prince will be accompanied by senior FA officials, including its chairman, Lord Triesman.
King Juan Carlos I of Spain will also attend the match in support of Barcelona. Prince William will be granted an Audience with The King before the match.
Other likely European bids to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup include Spain, (jointly) Netherlands and Belgium, and Russia.
