Sandringham Flower Show
Published 26/07/2018
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall today visited the 137th Sandringham Flower Show in Norfolk.
The show takes place in Sandringham Park with Sandringham House, a private Royal residence, as a backdrop. It features steam engines, local produce, community stalls and fairground rides among its many attractions.
Their Royal Highnesses toured the Royal marquees which house competitions in vegetables, fruit, flowers and floral art and The Prince presented awards in recognition of outstanding cottage gardens.
The profits from each show are donated to local charities and since 1977 the Show Committee has given around £760,000 to good causes. The Prince has been Patron of The Sandringham Estate Cottage Horticultural Society since 2002.
While meeting show attendees, His Royal Highness jokes to a well-wisher who had brought her two terriers to the show that she had "a hot dog!".
The Prince later paused at an ice cream van and spoke to seller Stephan Meredith, from Shrewsbury.
The Duchess also met actor John Challis, who played Boycie in the television show "Only Fools and Horses", and was shown his book on gardening.
