Apprenticeships at the Royal Household

Grow your skills with an Apprenticeship at The Royal Household.

At The Royal Household we're all kinds of people doing all kinds of jobs. We’re committed to training and skills development and strive to offer varied routes into employment with us.

That’s why we’re continually growing the number of apprenticeships across our diverse organisation.

All our apprenticeships are aligned to specific needs, where new talent and skills can bring the greatest benefit to our organisation, whilst also supporting skills gaps in industry sectors.

And for us, the experience is key. We recognise the importance of combining learning with on-the-job training. We work with training providers who are the best in their sector. And you’ll be supported every step of the way by colleagues who are experts in their field. Beyond the requirements of your apprenticeship, you’ll also benefit from our in-house Learning and Development offer, and you’ll join our internal apprentice network.

With an apprenticeship, you’ll earn while you learn. Our apprenticeships offer real, paid work-based learning opportunities that will help set the course for your future career.

Is an apprenticeship right for me?

Anybody can undertake an apprenticeship, as long as you are learning a new skill. It’s a pathway to a new or enhanced career which can begin at any stage of life.

For many of our apprenticeship opportunities you don’t need any previous experience or knowledge. All we ask is that you’re passionate about developing skills in your chosen occupation.

What apprenticeships are on offer?

Our apprenticeships reflect the diversity of our organisation. We’ve had apprentices in hospitality, butchery, chefs, painting and decorating, furniture making, IT infrastructure and HR – to name but a few.

While we can’t always guarantee a permanent role at the end of your apprenticeship, many of our apprentices have gone on to secure permanent employment with us.

Inclusion and Diversity matter at the Royal Household and we seek applications from the widest pool of talent. Delivery on our exceptional purpose is only made possible with a diverse and multitalented team working seamlessly together.

What does an apprenticeship involve?

Our apprenticeships vary in length and structure. They can cover every level of a career with equivalent qualifications ranging from GCSE equivalent at level 2 through to a master’s degree at level 7. Apprenticeship programmes can last from 1 to 5 years depending on the level.

All apprenticeships involve an element of ‘off-the-job’ learning, delivered by a registered training provider. Depending on your course, this could involve attending college or a training provider coming to your place of work. You’ll also have a dedicated mentor to support your training.

Your line manager will support you throughout your apprenticeship. They’ll be there to make sure you have all the opportunities to put your knowledge into practice on-the-job, as well as taking time to invest in your personal development and provide career guidance and mentorship.

All apprenticeships require you to have GCSE qualifications Grade 4 (or C grade) in English and Maths, however, we’ll support you to meet the required standard if you don’t have these qualifications already.

As an employee at The Royal Household, you’ll enjoy a range of benefits including 25 days (pro-rata) annual leave plus bank holidays, a competitive non-contributory occupational pension scheme, employee discounts and perks, as well lifestyle and flexible working options (suitable to your contractual terms).
