Meet Mark: Head of IT Service Delivery

Mark, Head of IT Service Delivery

As Head of IT Service Delivery, Mark is responsible for IT services for hundreds of computer users across our locations, overseeing the Service helpdesk, IT Project and Training teams.

"IT is used in nearly every aspect of the Royal Household, from the tills in the gift shops, to running the payroll, to planning menus and events for official state activity.

"The variety of systems in use means the roles in IT are incredibly interesting. There are a lot of challenges. We look after such a diverse set of users, some of whom may be working over 500 miles away, or even sometimes on the other side of the world when Members of the Royal Family travel to other countries."

"The Household is probably not initially thought of as a technically advanced organisation, but with an IT network linking 24 physical locations around the UK, and supporting over 1700 users, the IT Department is vital to ensuring a lot of people are able to work effectively."

Our roles are similar to many organisations; it's the end product that makes us unique.

"It's seeing how my contribution supports so many others right across the Household that is so rewarding".

"I manage a very talented team with a vast variety of skills. They have all brought their own experience, which helps ensure we stay fresh and open to new ideas and technologies. We constantly look beyond the Royal Household to seek best practices and look how these can be adapted for our own environment."

"I've worked for the Royal Household for a number of years, and as the IT department has grown I have been able to develop my career. I've attained service management and formal project management qualifications, and the Household has greatly supported my professional development too. I've gained skills in leadership, communication and coaching through various learning methods, all of which I use every day."

"Working for the Household is nothing like you can imagine. It can be challenging, and at times very hard work, and every day is a completely different experience. Most surprising is how vibrant and engaging everyone is who works at the Royal Household. It is far removed from the preconception of a load of posh people in suits".
