The Duchess of Cornwall celebrates Brent, the London Borough of Culture 2020
Published
At The Granville Youth and Community Centre in Kilburn, The Duchess met advisers and volunteers involved in the London Borough of Culture 2020 programme. The award aims to bring Londoners together and inspire young people to put culture at the heart of local communities.
The multi-use community building encompasses affordable workspace and studios for social enterprises and creative artists. On a tour of The Granville, Her Royal Highness met local businesses and organisations in the enterprise space.
The community centre is inclusive, accessible and affordable for all local people and groups. The Duchess watched performances from a number of groups who use the space, including an Irish dance group.
Later, Her Royal Highness visited the recently renovated facilities at the Kiln Theatre. The internationally renowned, and proudly local, theatre produces work presenting the world through a variety of lenses. Her Royal Highness today joined a youth theatre workshop and cast from the Kiln's new production, 'Pass Over'.
Before departing, The Duchess met Agents from the Brent 2020 social change project, The Agency. The initiative works with young people from marginalised areas to create social enterprises, events and projects that will have a positive impact on their local communities.
