The Duchess of Cornwall meets key workers in Swindon

Published

Today at Swindon Fire Station, The Duchess of Cornwall met key workers including firefighters, staff from Great Western Hospital and paramedics from South Western Ambulance Service.

The Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service has maintained its prevention, protection and emergency response arrangements during the pandemic, and adapted to relieve the pressures on others. During the visit, Her Royal Highness had the chance to see some of the emergency response vehicles that have been used throughout the pandemic.

The ambulance service has boosted its resources further through the recruitment of students, previous staff and staff from various departments.

The Duchess of Cornwall later visited Swindon Borough Council to hear about how staff, volunteers and residents have been coping during the pandemic. The Register Office have helped to rearrange over 100 marriages and are now working hard to catch up on the backlog of over 900 babies, whose births are yet to be registered.

Supported by a network of volunteers, the Council’s Live Well Hub helps isolated residents in the community. Over 8000 welfare telephone calls have been made and Her Royal Highness today packed the hub’s 1000th food parcel, which will be sent to a vulnerable resident with no family support.
