The Duchess of Cornwall visits the West Midlands

Published

Today, The Duchess of Cornwall carried out four visits across the West Midlands.

Her Royal Highness’s first stop was to Elmhurst Ballet School, of which The Duchess is Patron. Her Royal Highness met staff, pupils and Vice President, Carlos Acosta, before watching a performance.

Next, The Duchess officially opened the new ten-piece window installation, alongside Felicity Dahl at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The hospital and its charity teamed with Sir Quentin Blake and Felicity to create the installation featuring some of Dahl’s favourite characters including The BFG. The Duchess admired how the windows ‘sprinkled magic’ on the hospital, before meeting patients and four nurses from Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.

In Walsall, The Duchess read The Gruffalo to ‘Tiny Tots’ and met with groups that use the newly renovated ‘Lichfield Street Hub’ at Walsall Library for training and job seeking.

Finally, The Duchess toured the Launer Factory and witnessed British Craftsmanship first hand, viewing the production stage by stage. Her Royal Highness was introduced to staff by CEO Mr Gerald Bodmer and even tried her hand at gold-blocking!
