The Duchess of Edinburgh celebrates the NSPCC’s Childhood Day

At Richard Atkins Primary School in Brixton, Her Royal Highness helped to celebrate pupils’ fundraising efforts as part of the NSPCC’s Childhood Day.
The Duchess of Edinburgh is Patron of the NSPCC, and ahead of their annual Childhood Day on 9 June, joined school children to take part in a fundraising activity.
During the visit, Her Royal Highness met pupils who showed her some drawings they had made specially for the visit.
The children then showed The Duchess a spinner which contained a choice of ways in which they could complete their Childhood Day Mile. From hopping to dancing and skipping – there are lots of fun ways to get involved in in the mile.
Her Royal Highness then met two Speak Out Stay Safe volunteers, who have been working with older pupils at the school. The NSPCC-created workshops help children to understand abuse in all its forms, how to recognise signs of abuse and where to find support.
The NSPCC is the leading children’s charity fighting to end child abuse in the UK and Channel Islands. The charity first launched Childhood Day three years ago as a way to unite communities across the UK and highlight that everyone can play their part in helping to keep children safe from abuse and neglect.
