The Duke of Cornwall visits Truro and Nansledan

The Duke of Cornwall, as The Prince of Wales is known when in Cornwall, carried out engagements in the county today, visiting Truro and Nansledan.

His Royal Highness began the day at the Royal Cornwall Museum to mark its bicentenary year, view exhibitions and meet museum volunteers, staff and trustees. 

The Royal Cornwall Museum explores all that Cornwall, its history and its cultural heritage have to offer. In addition to a changing programme of exhibitions, the museum holds a varied collection of art, ranging from old master drawings to work by contemporary Cornish artists. The museum also features an internationally significant mineral collection, Cornish archaeology displays and world cultures collections.

The Duke then went on to visit Cornwall's only cathedral, Truro Cathedral, to Sign-A-Slate in support of the Roof Appeal and meet community groups and businesses utilising the newly refurbished Old Cathedral School. 

Following major fundraising efforts, Truro Cathedral has undertaken full restoration work that has transformed the century old building into an iconic, creative hub focussed on education, music and art for the City of Truro and the wider county of Cornwall.

A current project to repair the cathedral's original roof includes Sign-A-Slate, which provides the opportunity for visitors to sign their name or write a message on the back of one of the new slates being used on the roof, with the option to make a donation to the Roof Appeal. Almost 5,000 people have participated to date, including The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and The Princess Royal.

Following this, The Duke of Cornwall visited Nansledan to unveil the name of the development's first school. Nansledan is an extension to the Cornish coastal town of Newquay on Duchy of Cornwall land that embodies the principles of architecture and urban planning championed by His Royal Highness.
