The Duke of Rothesay attends the Mey Highland & Cultural Games

The Duke of Rothesay (as The Prince of Wales is known when in Scotland) attended the Mey Highland & Cultural Games in Caithness today.
The Games are held at the John O'Groats Showground and celebrate the hospitality, culture and talent of the people of the North Highlands in Scotland. Highlights of the day include Highland dancing, traditional pipe and drum bands.
The Duke toured the arena, met visitors and stall holders and watched Highland dancing. As Chieftain of the Games, His Royal Highness had the job of judging the classic tug of war competition!
The Queen Mother was Patron of the Mey Games and attended the event every year.
This year, disabled veterans from all over the UK took part in the Mey Games for the first time, joined by para-athletes from America and Australia at the event.
Organisers from the Royal British Legion Wick, Canisbay and Latheron Branch invited both para and Invictus athletes to compete in traditional Highland track-and-field competitions, the first time that disabled competitors have been included within a traditional Highland Games in Scotland.
