The Duke of Rothesay carries out engagements in Macduff and Banff

To begin the day, The Duke of Rothesay, as The Prince of Wales is known in Scotland, visited the newly refurbished 1st Macduff Scout Hut. On arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by a Guard of Honour formed up by the Scouts, Cubs and Beavers. The 1st Macduff Scout Hut is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Macduff and has been used for a variety of purposes, including a church, before being gifted to the Scouts. Throughout the year, the Scout groups use the hut to learn scouting skills, cook on gas rings and camp stoves, and work towards their awards. This includes learning about tents and looking after equipment and games nights. On the visit, The Duke met a number of members, who were taking part in art activities.

Next, His Royal Highness visited Vanilla Ink, a Silversmithing and Jewellery School, who are particularly focussed on working with isolated and vulnerable young people to develop skills, build confidence and self-esteem with their ‘Make in Metal’ programme. The Duke toured a workshop, where people were making silverware and saw photographs of the development of the building.

To end the day, The Duke of Rothesay toured Banff Museum and viewed their collection of Banff Silverware, which includes examples of many of the known Banff Silversmiths. The collection included a teapot made in the early 1700s, which is said to be one of the oldest surviving silver teapots in Scotland.
