The Prince of Wales carries out engagements in Wales

Today, The Prince of Wales carried out a number of engagements in Wales. To begin the day, His Royal Highness visited Ysgol Cwm Brombil to meet with staff and pupils involved in delivering The Prince’s Trust’s Achieve programme. The programme, launched in 2016, is the most recent addition to the charity’s education programmes. Achieve provides a unique offering for 11 to 19-year-olds; a practical approach to learning which supports young people to fulfil their potential and gain qualifications. The Prince met young students, along with their leaders and teachers, who then gave a short demonstration of the remote-control cars that they have been working on. Following this, The Prince watched a brief performance by the school’s pupils in the main sports hall.

Next, The Prince of Wales visited Plas Bryn Rhosyn Care Home to meet with residents and artists involved in Age Cymru’s ‘cARTrefu project’. ‘cARTrefu’, which means ‘to reside’ in Welsh, is a four-year programme which brings arts experiences to residents of care homes in Wales. The project was set up to increase opportunities and improve access to quality arts experiences for care home residents, improve their well-being and provide new avenues for self-expression. The Prince, who is Patron of Age Cymru, also took a tour of the care home and met other residents to see some of the activities they undertake, including their baking club.

Finally, His Royal Highness visited Rock UK’s Summit Centre, which has been transformed from a former coal mine. Rock UK is a nationwide Christian charity which gives young people a chance to experience adventure in a safe and affirming environment, helping them to push their boundaries and build their confidence. The Prince saw the centre’s 18 metre-high climbing wall and watched climbing demonstrations, before meeting with local children from the centre’s climbing club. His Royal Highness also met with representatives of The Prince’s Trust, of which The Prince is President, and members of the armed forces who train at the centre.

Following this, His Royal Highness saw some of the centre’s meeting rooms and spoke to the architects and construction workers. Unveiling a plaque to officially open the centre, The Prince of Wales said:

As I've got to the age I am, I've rather lost the head for heights and I'm very glad I didn't attempt the impossible on one of these walls. I'm so glad it's turned out to be such a success and I can only offer my warmest congratulations to all those who have helped to make it possible.
