The Prince of Wales visits Gloucestershire

The Prince of Wales carried out engagements in Gloucestershire on Friday 14th December. To start the day, His Royal Highness visited The Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice to meet patients and their families, volunteers and staff. The Prince of Wales has been Patron of Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice since 1986 and regularly pays a special visit to the hospice at Christmas in order to spend time with patients and to find out how the hospice is developing its services.

During His Royal Highness’s Patronage, 13,000 people have been cared for in the hospice and in the local community. Before departing, The Prince planted a tree in the Sir Charles Irving Woodland Walk to mark His Royal Highness’s 70th birthday.

Next, The Prince of Wales visited The Fleece Inn, a community pub supported by the Pub is The Hub initiative, and met members of the societies and clubs that use the pub. Pub is The Hub was initiated by The Prince of Wales in 2001, assisted by Business in the Community, of which His Royal Highness is Royal Founding Patron.

The organisation, of mainly volunteers, encourages communities, licensees, pub owners, breweries and the private sector to work together to match community priority needs with additional services which can be provided by the local pub.

On Monday 17th December, His Royal Highness visited Leighterton Primary School to see the new school building, meeting pupils and seeing some of their creative learning experiences.

Additionally, The Prince watched pupils perform their nativity play “It’s A Baby” in the School Hall. The small village school currently has 78 pupils, aged 4 to 11, across four classes. The Prince of Wales last visited the school in 2007, as part of the school’s centenary celebrations.
