The Prince of Wales visits Warwickshire and the West Midlands

Today, The Prince of Wales visited Warwickshire and the West Midlands.

The first stop of the day was the Costume Workshop of the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon. In his role as President, The Prince saw the ongoing redevelopment works and toured the RSC Costume Store. Following this, His Royal Highness saw a short performance of The Boy in the Dress, based on the novel by David Walliams, and met the cast.

Next, The Prince visited the National Automotive Innovation Centre at the University of Warwick. Here, His Royal Highness saw the latest innovations in electric and autonomous vehicle technology by Jaguar Land Rover, Tata Motors and Warwick Manufacturing Group.

His Royal Highness had the opportunity to meet students, apprentices and employees involved in developing the emerging technologies and mobility solutions.

Unveiling a plaque to officially mark the centre open, The Prince of Wales said:

By bringing the key people together we can make a real difference in the efforts to transform the way we travel. In this regard, I can only wish you every possible success with your work.

Later, The Prince received a very warm welcome in Bedworth, where His Royal Highness was visiting the Nicholas Chamberlaine Almshouses. The Prince of Wales has been Patron of The Almshouse Association since 1992.

The Almshouses accommodate residents in 27 sheltered housing apartments. Over tea, The Prince had the opportunity to meet residents, including Andrea, who showed her apartment to His Royal Highness.

Before departing, The Prince planted a tree to mark the visit. In July 1934, His Royal Highness’s uncle, Edward, The Prince of Wales, visited the Nicholas Chamberlaine Almshouses and planted an oak tree that still thrives today.

To end the day, His Royal Highness visited Veterans Contact Point in Nuneaton, a local charity that was created, supports and is run by veterans. The Prince was met by an honour guard of Standards, carried by local veterans and cadets. Inside, His Royal Highness met several partner organisations who support the charity.
