Day Four of the Autumn Tour: Brunei

Published

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall were welcomed by the renowned Nepalese servicemen with traditional greetings as they made a brief trip to the Commonwealth country during Their Royal Highness’s Autumn Tour.

When The Prince and The Duchess arrived in Brunei they were met at the airport by Brunei's Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah and his wife, Princess Sarah.

The royal party walked along a red carpet, through a Bruneian guard of honour, as they were introduced to dignitaries and military officials.

Later that afternoon, The Prince and The Duchess were festooned with garlands when they visited a Gurkha battalion based in Brunei. Lieutenant Colonel Jamie Murray, commanding officer of the 2nd Battalion Royal Gurkha Rifles, hosted the royal couple during the reception at a Brunei royal family residence called Edinburgh Palace.

The Prince of Wales marked his fortieth anniversary as Colonel-in-Chief of The Royal Gurkha Rifles in March, 2017.

Later, Their Royal Highnesses met with The Sultan of Brunei and Her Majesty Raja Isteri.

His Majesty The Sultan celebrated 50 years as Brunei's monarch in October with celebrations attended by the Earl and Countess of Wessex.

The Duchess and Her Majesty sat down andspoke about the Commonwealth tour schedule. Responding to questions from Her Majesty Raja Isteri, The Duchess explained she was keen to make the most of their short time in Brunei and commented "every day, we're non-stop!"
