Day Ten of the Autumn Tour: India

Published

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall have arrived in New Delhi, India for a brief, two day visit.

The first visit on Their Royal Highnesses’s agenda was to a celebration of the UK-India Year of Culture, hosted by the British Council. The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall viewed musical and artistic performances, and met participants of the UK-India Year of Culture Initatives – which Her Majesty The Queen launched at Buckingham Palace in February this year.

Their Royal Highnesses were given a demonstration of the interactive Mix the Body digital display and watched a performance of the Royal Mix by the Attakkalri Dance Company. Moving outside, Their Royal Highnesses planted a banyan tree to commemorate the British Council’s seventy year presence in India.

That afternoon, Their Royal Highnesses attended an Elephant Parade for the Elephant Family charity, created from painted sculptures. The 101 elephant sculptures will travel to Mumbai to draw attention to the Elephant Family’s mission, which funds projects across Africa and invests where help is needed most: to protect habitat, prevent conflict and reconnect the forest homes of the endangered Asian elephant.

In the evening, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall were received by Mr Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India at Hyderabad House. His Royal Highness has spoken of his passion for the Commonwealth during the tour, and with a major gathering of leaders from the family of nations being staged in London next April, the meeting of the prime Minister of India and The Prince will further strengthen UK-India relations ahead of the summit.
