The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall arrive in Nice for the Royal visit to France

Published

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall began the Royal visit to France today in Nice.

Their Royal Highnesses were welcomed to the city by Lord Llewellyn, Ambassador to France, before attending commemorations to remember those who died during the attack on Le Promenade des Anglais in July 2016.

Families of the victims and members of the emergency services who worked on the evening of the attack met The Prince and The Duchess following the commemorations and The Prince of Wales laid flowers from his Highgrove Garden at the memorial, which is dedicated to the 86 people who died.

Their Royal Highnesses then visited Èze and received a masterclass on different scents and perfume-making techniques at Fragonard Perfumery. The Perfumery was founded in 1926 and is one of the most well known in France.

Fragonard’s renowned "Nose" Celine Ellena invited The Prince and The Duchess to create their own perfumes before and Their Royal Highnesses met staff who make Fragonard’s famous soaps.

In Èze’s medieval village, The Prince and The Duchess explored the narrow streets and enjoyed views overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

To end the first day of the Royal visit to France, Their Royal Highnesses attended a reception at Villa Masséna to celebrate ties between the UK and Nice.

In a speech, The Prince said:

We are neighbours by Fate, partners by choice and friends because of the shared experience and deep affection that binds us.

Time and again we have stood together, and struggled together, for the values that we both cherish.

His Royal Highness was then declared an Honorary Citizen of Nice by Mayor Estrosi.
