  • Food 2 Remember. A family run butchers providing a variety of products including locally sourced meats, fish and pastries.
  • Bluebird Bakery. A bakery with shops in Malton, York and Leeds. All products are baked from scratch overnight in Malton.
  • Florian Poirot. Founded by Florian Poirot, a pastry chef from Nancy, France. The shop is well known in Malton for its macarons, chocolates and desserts. Florian represented the UK at the World Pastry Cup in 2017. Florian also won the best Sugar Showpiece prize at the 2017 World Pastry Cup in Lyon.

York House

At York House, The King met a variety of local charitable organisations who have played significant roles in supporting their local communities.

His Majesty meets local producers and customers

His Majesty also met representatives from The Prince’s Countryside Fund’s Farm for the Future programme which runs in Helmsley, North Yorkshire. The programme supports farmers in tackling the opportunities and challenges the face.

Charities The King met, included:

  • Ryedale Folk Museum: Based in the North York Moors National Park, the open-air museum welcomes visitors to explore the stories and heritage of the region. The Museum contains 40,000 objects housed with twenty heritage buildings including a medieval Manor house and an iron age Roundhouse.
  • Circular Malton & North: Is an initiative aiming to create Yorkshire’s (and possibly the UK’s) first circular market town. In a circular economy, items are reused, repurposed, refurbished, repaired, and shared amongst people, reducing waste and consumption. By establishing a community anaerobic digestion (AD) facility close to Malton & Norton, the town’s commercial food waste is converted to biogas. The opening of Ryedale Remakes Shop, a repair and upcycling hub in Malton, also aims to encourage residents to repair goods, saving them from landfills.
  • The Encephalitis Society: This global charity, based in Malton, focuses on raising awareness and supporting research into Encephalitis. Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain, an indiscriminate syndrome that is usually caused by infection or by a person’s own immune system attacking the brain in error. It is estimated that around 500,000 people a year across the globe are affected with this often-deadly brain condition.
  • Ryedale Charities Together: Formed in 2000 by six charities, Ryedale Charities Together is a group of local charities who deliver a diverse range of essential services to people in need, within the largely rural Ryedale District of North Yorkshire. Through their ‘Community One Stop’, an event that take place across Ryedale every month, the charity aims to address the problems of isolation and disadvantages experienced by people in Ryedale by providing ongoing support, information, advice and opportunities.
  • Croft Community Camphill Trust: Offers people with learning disabilities, mental health challenges and autism support a range of supported work opportunities and enterprises including a market garden, a café and craft workshops.
  • The Prince’s Countryside Fund: Founded by His Majesty The King in 2010 as The Prince of Wales, The Prince’s Countryside Fund is the only UK-wide charity that empowers family farms and rural communities to ensure their future. The Fund have supported a number of community projects, and 166 farming families in Yorkshire.
