Swiss Cottage Farmers' Market
Published
Today The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall visited Swiss Cottage Farmers’ Market to celebrate the 20th anniversary of London Farmers’ Market.
Their Royal Highnesses were greeted at the market with a performance by a band from Camden-based Young Music Makers, before meeting stallholders and members of the public.
Swiss Cottage Farmers’ Market opened in 1999, becoming the third location of London Farmers’ Markets. The market sells a wide variety of local produce from farmers and artisan food producers.
Touring the stalls, The Prince and The Duchess tasted produce including local cheese, pastries and caviar from the UK’s first caviar farm.
The Prince of Wales also had the opportunity to speak to Isidora Popovic, the owner of Popina Bakery, which she set up in 1999 with a grant from The Princes Trust.
To mark the 20th anniversary, over 30 farmers and producers were invited from across the 22 weekly markets run by London Farmers’ Markets to attend Swiss Cottage Farmers Market for today’s visit.
