The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay preview a new Highgrove shop and restaurant in Ballater

The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay (as The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall are known when in Scotland) visited Ballater last night to preview a new Highgrove shop and restaurant, which have been developed with the support of The Duke’s flood appeal.
His Royal Highness set up a charity fund and personally donated money to help several projects in Ballater following the devastating floods which occurred in December 2015 and January 2016.
One of these projects is the newly completed Rothesay Rooms, a restaurant and Highgrove shop named after The Duke of Rothesay. The site has been restored by The Prince's charity, The Great Steward of Scotland's Dumfries House Trust.
The Duke and Duchess toured the new shop and restaurant and met those involved with the project, including local business owners, donors and supporters as well as some of the builders who worked on the project and gave much of their time and materials for free. The shop and restaurant opens to the public next month and will employ local people and provide a much-needed new facility for locals and visitors alike.
His Royal Highness said: "There has been a lot of effort in the last six months or so since the disastrous floods that did so much damage to poor old Ballater.
"(I hope) this particular restaurant and shop will help to give a little boost to Ballater, particularly in the off-season.
"I am hoping we may be able to use the kitchen facilities here as part of a skills training for young people."
