After arriving in Florence on Friday evening, Their Royal Highnesses attended an event to celebrate the British Institute’s 100th anniversary.

On Saturday, The Prince of Wales began the first full day of the visit to Italy by honouring those killed in the First World War while The Duchess of Cornwall visited a project supporting vulnerable people.

His Royal Highness travelled to north-east Italy to mark the centenary of the deployment of British forces to the Austrian front in 1917, and paid his respects to those from all countries who died in the conflict.

The Prince toured a Commonwealth War Graves site and visited the Italian front, before taking a walking tour of The Path of the 52 Tunnels, which was built in 1917 to aid military communication and transfer supplies through mountainous terrain.

The Duchess meanwhile visited La Gloriette in Naples, a project supporting vulnerable people to help them integrate back into their communities, which is based in a villa confiscated from the mafia. Her Royal Highness saw a fashion show put on by ‘La casa di Alice’ (Alice’s Place). La casa di Alice is another villa confiscated from the mafia which became a social tailor workshop for Nigerian girls who are victims of human trafficking.

Later, The Duchess visited the workshop and showroom of tie producer E. Marinella before heading to Herculaneum to hear about the preservation of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the evening, Their Royal Highnesses returned to Florence for a Wine Industry Reception.

The Prince and The Duchess had the opportunity to taste different wine and oils, and met both Tuscan and British food producers.
