His Royal Highness has spent the day in Newcastle visiting organisations which connect closely to his work within the Education and Skills. The Duke of York visited North East Futures UTC Newcastle, The Boiler Shop, Pulsant and Komatsu UK.
The first visit was to North East Futures UTC Newcastle, where His Royal Highness met staff members and students who are furthering their education with the programme scheme from the University Technical College (UTC).
UTC’s helps and encourages students to apply their learning and knowledge to real-life contexts, supported by cutting -edge research facilities, partners and staff members. The Duke of York is Patron of the Baker Dearing Educational Trust. This trust promoted new and existing UTCs.
The Duke of York then travelled to Gateshead to officially open Pulsant’s new North East Office.
Pulsant is one of the UK’s leading providers of hybrid cloud solutions. The new office, which HRH opened on the visit, will provide many more jobs within the North East and strengthen their links with the area.
The visit then concluded with His Royal Highness visiting Komatsu.
Komatsu is the second largest manufacturer and supplier of construction and mining equipment. The company has also gained a long history of encouraging young people into engineering.
Along the tour of the organisation, the Duke of York joined students who are taking part in STEM activities.
