The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall's summer visit to Wales
Published
The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will spend a week in July celebrating Welsh enterprise and community. Their Royal Highnesses will visit a variety of businesses, from Welsh family firm the Village Bakery in Wrexham, where they'll officially open a new Baking Academy; to Maesllwyni Farm in Penegoes which produces organic lamb; via firms such as fashion designers Charles and Patricia Lester in Abergavenny and General Dynamics UK Limited, a defence and aerospace manufacturer, in Caerphilly. The Duchess, who's President of the United Kingdom Vineyards Association, will open the new winery at Ancre Hill vineyard in Monmouth.
The Royal couple will visit villages and towns up and down the country, meeting local people and sharing in their community spirit. For instance, in Llanarmon-yn-lal and Llandysul they will hear how residents have worked together to save their local pubs, with support from The Prince's Pub is the Hub initiative. Other highlights of the week will include a visit by The Prince of Wales to the SWALEC stadium to meet England and Australia players preparing for the Ashes Test Series, and Their Royal Highnesses visiting the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. His Royal Highness is the Festival's Patron.
Each summer, Their Royal Highnesses spend a week at Llwynywermod, their Welsh farmhouse near Llandovery in Carmarthenshire, visiting different parts of Wales. The Prince and Duchess also host events at Llwynywermod, which this year will include a concert organized by the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Her Royal Highness will host a tea party, including entertainment by Carmarthen Youth Opera, for children from Ty Hafan Hospice. The Duchess is Patron of Carmarthen Youth Opera and The Prince is Patron of the hospice. The couple will visit the local area too – His Royal Highness will unveil a new X-ray machine and meet patients and staff at Llandovery Hospital; whilst Her Royal Highness views the first Flower Festival in the village of Rhandir-mwyn and tours Llandovery YMCA, meeting some of the community groups based there.
The Prince will also carry out a number of engagements in support of his charities. During the SWALEC visit, His Royal Highness will meet young people taking part in a Prince's Trust 'Get Into Hospitality' programme; he'll also visit 'Too Good To Waste' a re-use/recycling centre and social enterprise set up with help from the Trust, and meet young offenders taking part in a Prince's Trust 'Get Started with Football' programme at Parc Prison, Bridgend. At Nanteos Mansion in Aberystwyth, The Prince will attend events in support of his Cambrian Mountains Initiative, which aims to assist farmers in the region, and his charity PRIME Cymru, which provides practical support to people aged 50 and over who want to become and remain economically active.
A Clarence House spokesperson said: 'The Prince and The Duchess always enjoy their annual summer visit to Wales. They are very much looking forward to engaging with communities in many different parts of the country, and to seeing the rich variety of Welsh enterprise. '
