More details on The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall's visit to Canada

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will visit Canada from Thursday 29th June to Saturday 1st July. The visit will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation and engagements will highlight the four themes of Canada150: diversity and inclusion, reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, young people and the environment.

Their Royal Highnesses will arrive in Iqaluit, the capital city of the Canadian territory of Nunavut, on Thursday 29th June. Following an official welcome ceremony, Their Royal Highnesses will undertake a separate programme of engagements before jointly attending a community feast at Sylvia Grinnell Territorial Park.

On Friday 30th June, The Prince and The Duchess will travel to Ontario where they will visit Canadian Forces Base Trenton and Wellington Farmers Market on the shore of Lake Ontario in Prince Edward County. Here they will meet members of the local community as their Canada150 celebrations get underway.

On Canada Day itself (1st July), Their Royal Highnesses will undertake engagements across the Capital Region. This will include joining the events on Parliament Hill, which will be the focus of Canada's national celebrations for the 150th anniversary.

Minister of Canadian Heritage, The Honourable Mélanie Joly said: “Their Royal Highnesses will have the opportunity to meet and connect with Canadians who are making a difference in their communities and building a lasting legacy for Canada’s future.”

Notes for Editors

This will be the 18th visit to Canada for The Prince of Wales and the fourth for The Duchess of Cornwall.

This will be the first official visit to Nunavut by Their Royal Highnesses, however, The Prince of Wales visited Iqaluit, then part of the Northwest Territories, in 1970. In addition, His Royal Highness has also visited the Northwest Territories and Yukon in 2001, 1979 and 1975

Excluding the Capital Region, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall visited cities and communities in Ontario in 2012 and 2009. The Prince of Wales also visited Ontario in 1996, 1991 and 1970.

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will be attending the Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill for the first time.
