The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will visit Germany
Published
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will visit Germany from 7th-10th May 2019.
Their Royal Highnesses' visit, which is at the request and on behalf of the British Government, will demonstrate the depth and breadth of the UK–Germany bilateral relationship and its enduring importance to both countries.
The visit will highlight key themes in this relationship, as well as our shared history and cultural connections. The Prince of Wales has visited Germany several times, both publicly and privately. The Duchess of Cornwall made an official visit to Germany in 2009 with The Prince of Wales.
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will begin their tour on 7th May in Berlin. Their Royal Highnesses will attend engagements in the afternoon, and The Prince of Wales will meet with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Later that evening, Their Royal Highnesses will attend The Queen’s Birthday Party, an annual event hosted by the British Ambassador at his residence in Berlin.
On 8th May, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will arrive in Leipzig for a day of engagements. During the visit, Their Royal Highnesses will explore the city’s cultural heritage and learn about the role the people of Leipzig played in the ‘Peaceful Revolution’ that helped bring about an end to the division of Germany in 1989.
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will spend the 9th and 10th May in Munich, where they will carry out a series of engagements that reflect the themes of the tour. The Prince will focus on partnerships for green growth, sustainable organic produce and economic cooperation. The Duchess will engage with women who have suffered domestic abuse as part of her commitment to support victims of domestic violence in the UK and overseas.
In the evening, Their Royal Highnesses will attend a dinner hosted by the Bavarian Minister President, Dr Markus Soeder at the historic Residenz in Munich. The event will be attended by key figures from politics, business, culture, science and education.
Their Royal Highnesses will end their visit to Germany with a celebration of local produce at an organic farm, which was established to preserve traditional agriculture and crafts.
