The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall Annual Review 2018-19

Published

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall have published their Annual Review 2018-19.

It was another extremely busy year with almost 640 engagements across fourteen countries. It was also a year of great personal happiness, with the marriage of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex alongside the birth of another grandchild, Prince Louis. These events, in addition to the honour of being unanimously chosen to be the next Head of the Commonwealth, combined to make it a very special year.

In the course of their first full year as a newly consolidated group, The Prince of Wales's charities raised over £90m across The Prince’s Trust, The Prince’s Foundation and The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund. The Fund offered grants of more than £5 million to a wide range of small and medium sized organisations thanks to funds raised by royalties from Waitrose Duchy Organics and revenue from the Highgrove Garden Tours amongst others.

The Duchess of Cornwall also had a very busy year in which she continued to support her many charitable organisations.  The Duchess has, for several years, focussed particularly on issues around sexual assault and domestic violence.  In April last year, Her Royal Highness attended a Women’s Forum meeting at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London about domestic abuse across the Commonwealth where she gave a speech about “the hidden problem” of such abuse.

Another of The Duchess’s key areas of interest continues to be that of literacy and literature.  In June, Her Royal Highness once again took on the role of “Fairy Godmother” for the final of the BBC’s 500 Words writing competition, which took place at Hampton Court Palace. Later in the year, The Duchess hosted an event to mark the 50th anniversary of the Man Booker Prize for Fiction at Buckingham Palace. Whilst on tour she also attended events to celebrate The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition in Ghana and St Vincent.

In addition to this, Their Royal Highnesses continued to support The Queen in a wide range of State, military and Commonwealth activity both in the UK and around the world.
